North Herts Centre For Voluntary Service - Community Transport Scheme
What is the Community Transport Scheme?
The scheme is run by a Co-ordinator who has a team of local volunteer drivers who use their own cars in their free time.
All of our drivers are paid a mileage rate to cover the distance they travel from and back to their own home (this is currently 40 pence per mile).
Who are our drivers?
Our drivers are from all walks of life, some are retired, or students, or parents with children at school. All have varied backgrounds and interests and enjoy helping others. All have been CRB (Criminal Records Bureau checked).
Who are our clients?
The scheme is for individuals, elderly or young, or for people with special needs, who have difficulty using other passenger transport. This may be because of mobility problems or because there is no alternative form of passenger transport available. Anybody using a wheelchair must be able to self transfer from their wheelchair to the car, or must have a relative or friend to assist them.
What kind of journeys are undertaken?
- Hospital visits for treatments, appointments, outpatients
- Health Care appointments
- Dental appointments
- Attendance at Day Centres and Special Needs clubs etc.
- Social purposes, such as visiting friends or relatives
The scheme has Public Liability Insurance cover
